What Distinguishes The Shutter Shop from the Other Suppliers?

We sell quality products that we stand behind. Our primary shutter is from O'Hair Shutters in Lubbock, Texas. It is an all-wood shutter with mortise and tenon construction, glued and screwed, and has continuous metal linkage on the tilt rod. The most common issue with shutters is staples coming out the back of the tilt rod. O'Hair uses metal linkage to eliminate this issue.

We offer shutters with hidden tilt or tilt rods on the side. We recommend the traditional tilt rod placement located in the center. There are fewer issues with this design. And frankly, most people who purchase shutters purchase them for the value and the longevity they provide. A customer buys shutters for the long haul. Curtains and other shades are really 7-year products even though some people keep them up for many years. The hidden tilt and the side tilt require the staple/brad to be placed on the corner of the louver, which in turn can "blow out" very easily. But if that's what you want, we'll sell you that.

Most of the competition uses an outside mount with a frame. We try to use an inside mount whenever possible. This allows the shutter to be closer to the glass without covering your trim. It takes more time to carefully measure and install an inside mounted shutter vs. a frame that randomly fits all over the trim. We install our shutters with screws, allowing for better ease if the shutters need to come down for some reason or they need adjusting over time. Most of the competition does a quick install with a nail gun, not allowing for easy adjustments at a later date. And a shutter in frame shifts over time!

As mentioned earlier, The Shutter Shop uses a high-quality, all-wood shutter panel from O'Hair Shutters. Making a shutter is not that difficult, but getting quality wood on a consistent basis is difficult. O'Hair has over 100k square feet devoted just to the processing and drying of greenwood. We believe a panel fabricated by O'Hair exceeds the quality of all our competitors who purchase molding and cut and assemble their own panels. At our facility, we customize the panel to fit your window and fabricate the hanging strips; when 2 panels meet in the middle, we rabbit the panels as opposed to adding an astragal. A rabbit requires more skill and eliminates the chance of the astragal popping off at a later date. We use a 4 coat process to paint our shutters, with the final coat being the same paint as on your trim, provided it's an oil/alkyd-based paint or a hybrid. One cannot use traditional acrylic latex paint on shutters due to the fact the louvers may stick. We believe that using the same paint on the shutters on your trim provides for a more finished product instead of "matching" your paint.

Client Review

I had a large shutter on which multiple slats were disconnected from the tilt bar. The Shutter Shop handled & repaired it promptly & with good quality. Winston was responsive and easy to work with to get this accomplished. And the workman I met on drop off & pick up was totally knowledgeable & super nice. I highly recommend this small business!!
